Ameya Pawar to challenge Eugene Schulter for Alderman

A challenger, Ameya Pawar, has emerged to run against 47th Ward Chicago Alderman Eugene Schulter. Pawar announced his challenge with a blog on February 22.

Pawar lists involvement in the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention as a member of the Board of Directors and the Chair of the Art of Peace Gala. He also says he is a member of the Common Pantry Board of Directors and holds two Masters Degree, with a candidacy for a third degree expected to be granted in 2011.

“I found myself becoming disappointed about the divisive nature of our politics,” Pawar says on his web site. Ameya Pawar (pronounced Uh-May-Uh Pa-War). “I often wondered how politics always seemed to trump the idea of public service, and how deal-making and entrenchment was seen as good experience… “

Pawar, who held his first fundraiser at O’Donovan’s, 2100 W Irving Park Rd., Chicago, IL, says he has generated 500 unique IP addresses and 5,000 hits in the last week on his website, renewchicago.com.
