Sled Hockey a Hot Game on Ice
We cannot display this galleryLast night the sled hockey team sponsored by the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and The Chicago Park District allowed Wells Park Bulldog to photograph a team practice. Basically sled hockey is the same game played on rinks and ponds everywhere. Sled hockey however is played from a sitting position on a “sled” which not only changes perspective but a few of the subtleties of the game. The most obvious difference is the goalie, without a butterfly these men and women playing the game have a larger area to defend, including a blind area under the sled. Size seems to matter less than speed, allowing women to compete with men on the same level.
Here are some images of the practice, these men and women play hard, the speed and contact are real, proving once again hockey is for everyone!
