Illinois Sen. moves bill banning VOC used in dry cleaning
The Illinois Senate Environment Committee unanimously passed out of committee a bill that would ban the use of perchloroethylene, or perc, by Illinois dry cleaners. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Heather Steans, is moving to the floor of the Senate for further consideration.
The bill will mean that dry cleaners will have till Jan. 1, 2030 to transition to machines that use other chemicals.
