The US Department of Education said Audubon School was a 2011 National Blue Ribbon winner based on overall academic excellence and its success in closing the achievement gap.
In a press release, the Dept. said 256 public and 49 private schools will receive the awards. The awards will be given at a ceremony November 14-5 in Washington, DC.
Audubon was one of 415 US schools that were invited to submit for the award, based on recommendations of educational groups.
Nineteen Illinois schools, including Northside College Prep High School will receive the award this year. St Therese Chinese Catholic School, located at 247 W 23rd St. is the other Chicago school to receive the award.
