A $150,000 project that will create an athletic field at Hamilton School is moving forward according to reports to the school Local School Council last week.

The Hamilton Sports Park, which will be built in two phases, is expected to be started with parent generated funds later this school year, the LSC heard. A community teaching garden was completed in July.

The teaching garden includes a dry creek bed and mature plants and trees. It is a hit with classes Principal James Gray said.

The next phase of the project will remove the blacktop pavement near the school. Replacing it will be an artificial grass athletic field.

Efforts by the Hamilton Action Team raised the $100,000 needed for the next phase of construction. An additional $50,000 will be needed to extend and expand the athletic field in 2013.
