The Chicago Public Schools today announced it will nearly double the number of schools offering the International Baccalaureate diploma. The IB is a college preparatory program. The city notes that IB students are 40 percent more likely to attend a four year college than their peers. About 75 percent of CPS IB students are African-American, Latino or live in low-income neighborhoods, a release from CPS notes. IB is currently offered in the neighborhood to Amundsen students as well as Lincoln Park and Prosser. Lake View will offer the IB program to students entering in 2012 as part of its partnership with Microsoft. CPS will add ten additional high schools to the current 13. It said there will be at least one IB-only school in each region and five schools will offer a traditional high school curriculum and IB. The schools to offer the IB will be announced later this year.   Read the Press Release from the City
