The Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association (ravenswoodmanor.com) April 18 meeting at the Horner Park Fieldhouse brought out several involved parents and residents to discuss the Chicago Public School system with CPS Obsessed blogger Rebecca Labowitz. Waters Elementary was a major topic of conversation as the crowd included current Waters parents as well as prospective ones; many expressed gratitude for having Waters as their local public school option. Rebecca helped explain, along with the intricacies of the CPS system, including testing, tiers, and magnet, charter, and option tracks in schools, that a strongly supported neighborhood school is extremely important, especially now that SE high schools are getting more and more difficult to get accepted into. She noted that several area parents are now starting to investigate the next frontier: high school, with opportunities rising for improvement at Amundsen, which will be the district school for many Waters families. For more information, read Rebecca’s blog at cpsobsessed.org, or visit the CPS web site: www.cps.edu. The RMIA will be holding a community education event in the fall; contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
