September 1, 2012

At 5.19 A today the National Weather Service issued the following Hazardous Weather Outlook for Northeast Illinois including the Northcenter area:

WEATHER HAZARDS EXPECTED:

SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS SOME OF WHICH MAY PRODUCE:
VERY HEAVY RAINFALL
A BRIEF TORNADO

AREAS AFFECTED AND TIMING:

SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIFT NORTHWARD ACROSS
EAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS…PORTIONS OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND
NORTHWESTERN INDIANA TODAY. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL THREAT WILL
PRIMARILY BE SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80…WHERE RAINFALL TODAY AND
TONIGHT COULD AMOUNT TO 2 TO 4 INCHES IN SOME AREAS.

DISCUSSION:

THE REMNANTS OF ISAAC WILL MOVE EAST ACROSS CENTRAL ILLINOIS LATE
TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY. SHOWERS…WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS WILL
GRADUALLY DEVELOP NORTHWARD ACROSS CENTRAL AND PORTIONS OF
NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA THIS MORNING AND WILL
CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. DUE TO THE HIGH AMOUNT OF
MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH ISAAC…PERIODS OF HEAVY RAINFALL ARE
EXPECTED ACROSS AREAS MAINLY SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80. THIS COULD
LEAD TO SOME MINOR FLOODING. HOWEVER…WATER LEVELS ON AREA RIVERS
AND SMALL STREAMS ACROSS THE AREA REMAIN LOW DUE TO THE ONGOING
DROUGHT CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA. THEREFORE…THE POTENTIAL FOR
ANY SIGNIFICANT FLOODING ISSUES LOOKS TO REMAIN LOW. THERE IS
ALSO A VERY SMALL CHANCE THAT A BRIEF TORNADO OR TWO COULD DEVELOP
TODAY…MAINLY SOUTH OF THE ILLINOIS AND KANKAKEE RIVER VALLEYS
WHERE A SURFACE FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL BECOME DRAPED WHICH WILL ALLOW
FOR SOME MODEST LOW LEVEL WIND SHEAR TO DEVELOP.

THE POTENTIAL FOR RIP CURRENTS WILL BE ENHANCED TODAY ALONG THE
LAKE MICHIGAN SHORE NORTH OF CHICAGO.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS…CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VERY
HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE ON SUNDAY AND INTO MONDAY…GENERALLY
SOUTH OF THE INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR.
