Vikings Show Offensive Power Against Wells, Tie With Schurz
The Amundsen Vikings boys soccer team endured two losses before reaching their second victory of the season, but they won with an exclamation point.
The Vikings (2-2-1) defeated the Wells Raiders 8-2 Monday at Amundsen. Three different Vikings tallied two goals in the game, including junior forward/midfielder Hamza Hadzic, senior midfielder/guard Daniel Ayala, and senior Marco Suarez.
"The communication and the passing was better (Monday) than it's been in the other games," Suarez said. "We want to focus on passing the ball around exactly like we did today (for Tuesday's game against the Shurz Bulldogs)."
Junior midfielder/forward Juan Macedo and JV player Mwitum Imutowana each accounted for a goal in Monday's game as well, with Imutowana's coming at the 20-minute mark of the first half to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. The Vikings would lead for the rest of the game.
A matchup against a second division team like Wells gives Perez an opportunity to rest his starting players and give the bench players more time on the field.
"It was great," said Suarez of playing with some of the bench players. "You get used to playing with them so it won't be awkward when they come in in the future."
The rested starters came out with a 1-1 tie with the Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon at Amundsen.
"It's important (that the starters got to rest) because the game against Shurz is crucial," Perez said. "They went down from the premier division to the first division, and they're mad. They wanted to prove a point."
