The Gordon Tech Rams (2-5, 1-2) lost Saturday afternoon to the Leo High School Lions (4-2, 3-1) 14-6 at CPS’s Stagg Stadium (not to be confused with the University of Chicago’s famous Stagg Field). Bad calls from the officials hampered the Rams in the first half who fell behind 14-0.
There was no quit in this young Rams team. They came out fighting in the second half holding the Lions scoreless. Late in the third quarter, GT senior running back Deon Taylor took a counter play right up the middle for a 50 plus yard TD to bring the Rams back to within a touchdown and two point conversion. The Rams defense held the Lions scoreless and took the ball away several times. Two late offensive series for the Rams came up short.
Hales Franciscan controls its destiny in the Catholic League Red Divison already having beaten Gordon Tech and Leo. Those three teams each took a share of the division championship last year.
The Rams finish the season with St. Francis De Sales next week and St. Ignatius the week after next. The future looks bright for the young Rams squad. The Rams start more sophomores than seniors.
