The All Saints’ community celebrated the Feast of St Francis today by letting the place go to the cats and the dogs.
St Francis of Assisi was noted for his love of nature and animals. His feast is celebrated in many Christian communities with a blessing of household pets.
All Saints service was punctuated with barks, mews and other sounds of attention and contentment. The highlight of the service was the blessing of each pet in the sanctuary.
Dogs, cats, guinea pigs and reportedly one very furry and soft chinchilla were all blessed in turn by the All Saints Rectors. At the end of the service pets and their human companions left singing the traditional hymn “All Creatures Great and Small.”
