Amundsen Falls to Tough Foreman squad
The shorthanded Amundsen Vikings football team couldn't get past the 5-1 Foreman Hornets.
The Vikings (1-6, 1-4) fell to the Hornets 46-6 at Hanson Stadium Friday night. With the Vikings down 12-0 with 4:57 left to play in the first half, junior quarterback Jaylen Petty put the Vikings on the board with a 34-yard touchdown run to cut the Hornets' lead in half. Petty was glad to get help from his offensive line, and knows that his team gave effort on both sides of the football.
"The blocking was good," said Petty. "We need to get the snap right and start tackling on defense, but they gave effort."
Petty did his damage on the ground, rushing for 80 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown. Running back Akram Tzul tallied 48 yards on 15 carries, while An Tran rushed for 55 yards on four carries.
"Jalen had a good game," said head coach Grant Jones. "Sometimes he'll run before he goes through his check-downs and that will hurt us. A lot of times, he's right so we give him free reign on that."
The Vikings seek their second conference win this Thursday when they take on the Taft Eagles at Lane Tech, and Petty knows it is within reach if they fine-tune their plays in their short practice week.
"We just have to get our stuff right," Petty said. "We have to perfect our plays, and we'll be alright."
