Gary Garland, 50, the executive director of the Lakeview Pantry, will receive the CARES Award for community service at a November 8 reception.
“His leadership, energy and compassion” has made “our community a better place,” Saint Joseph Hospital CEO Roberta Luskin-Hawk, MD, said in a news release. “He truly exemplifies our core values.”
Garland joined the Lakeview Pantry in 1986. He has worked to eliminate hunger and poverty, Saint Joseph’s notes.
“This year, Garland turned his fifteith birthday celebration into a rally against hunger,” the hospital says. It says Garland’s efforts raised $30,000 for the Lakeview Pantry.
