Elms Return to City

November 17, 2012
This year the 47th Ward office ordered $23,000 worth of trees from the aldermanic menu fund to replace dead and missing trees along the tree pits of major commercial streets. Forty-six new trees, mostly disease resistant Elms, were planted last week primarily along Lincoln and Western Avenues. Relatively low cost, trees are great urban investments as they beautify business districts, calm traffic, absorb pollution, provide oxygen and give residents pride of place. Tree planting locations were based on 311 requests and input from the public.
