Bengals 55, Rams 42The St. Benedict girls varsity basketball team battled Gordon Tech to a 55 to 42 victory Monday evening at St. Ben’s gym. The Bengals jumped to an early lead but the Rams charged back in the second quarter with eight points from junior forward and St. Benedict grade school alumnae, Sarah Zarymbski. A late lay-up by GT junior forward Jill Conneely made it 23 to 22 Bengals at the half. First year head coach Jacqueline Storm’s Rams gave up an uncharacteristically large number of turnovers in the second half. Despite the turnovers, the Rams stayed close until about midway through the 4th when the Bengals defense proved too much. St. Benedict senior point guard Alexis Genge propped a couple lay-ups off turnovers and the Bengals never looked back. Lexi Genge lead all scorers with 22 points. Bengals senior forward Ashley Kryzsotopik had 12 points. Freshman guard Brittany Camana had 11 for the Bengals. Gordon Tech junior guard Jill Conneely lead the Rams with 14 points. GT senior center Melanie Claudio had 11. GT junior forward Sarah Zarymbski, had 10 points, 8 in the second quarter. See more photos from the game at the Welles Park Bulldog facebook page.
