St Gregory the Great High School, located in the Andersonville neighborhood, is set to close at the end of the year. The school has about 100 students, according to reports to the city and independent web sites such as Great Schools.
“After months of prayer and thoughtful consideration,” the school says in a post on its website, “this year, the 75th of St Gregory the Great High Schoool’s history, will be its last.”
The school says impending expenses to maintain the building and an unsure financial footing mean the school’s students wouldn’t receive the resources and opportunities they need.
Students are urged to apply for acceptance to Holy Trinity High School. The Archdiocese of Chicago is also offering $1,000 to current St Gregory students to apply to another Catholic high school.
