8 City teams Remain in Football Playoffs

It was a harsh weekend, with many Chicago high school teams falling. Among the victors, Brother Rice (#5) defeated Bartlett (#28) 49-21. Brother Rice faces South Elgin (#12) in the second round 8A playoffs at home. Another city team, Marist (#23) had a hard fought win over Notre Dame- Niles (#10) Friday evening, winning 17-14. Marist will host Barrington (#7) at home. In 7A Mt. Carmel (#16) defeated Glenbard North (#17) in a soggy event Saturday. The Caravan face Glenbard West (#1) in Glen Ellyn in the next round. Simeon (#20) eliminated Lincoln Park (#13) at Lane Saturday, 51-6. Simeon will play Batavia (#4) in round two. In 5A, King (#4) crowned DuSable (#13) 42-6 to advance to the second round. St. Laurence (#5) lies in wait. Solorio Academy (#15) surprised Lindblom (#2) 20-18 in the first round. Solorio will face Nazareth Academy (#7) in the second round. Phillips (#1) trounced Genoa (#16) 41-7. Phillips faces Johnsburg (#9) in the second round of the 4A Bracket., the only city team to play in that bracket. Raby (#7) crushed the only other city team to play in 3A, Clark (#10), 30-0. It faces Princeton (#2) in the next round.
