November 3, 2015
The Deerfield High School (#17, 6-3) Warriors dominated a confused Broncos, crushing the post season hopes of Kenwood (#4, 7-2) in a 49-6 beating. The home loss at Gately Stadium was the first for the Broncos this season. The Warriors got off to a fast start, scoring on a 64 yard drive that culminated in a six yard pass to Charlie Jones. Dylan Reisman recovered the kickoff fumble that followed, allowing Deerfield to have possession on the 42 yard line. Kenwood's Robert Hoes recovered a fumble by Deerfield's quarterback Anthony Brian Ranallo. But the Warrior defense, led by Alex Burns replied by sacking Kenwood quarterback Dijuan McCullom. John Fisher carried the ball 11 times in the next drive. The drive got frustrated by a strong Kenwood red zone defense and attempted a field goal from the six that was no good. After Kenwood had a frustrating possession Deerfield took control on the Kenwood 47. Fisher again was used to good effect, making a 47 yard game winning run and putting the score at 14-0. Joshua Maize sacked the QB in the next Kenwood possession and a terrible fourth down punt gave the Warriors the ball on the Kenwood 18 yard line. The 18 yard drive that followed saw Fisher score his second touchdown of the day. Jabari Simpson put oxygen back into Kenwood, with a one play 80 yard touchdown, the only score of the day for Kenwood. The game still seemed to be in doubt. Three fumbles in four consecutive possessions caused the ownership of the ball to flip back and forth. However Fisher, with a 68 yard run, seemed to take the air out of Kenwood for good, his third touchdown of the game. Lukas Kerstein put another nail in the Kenwood coffin, recovering a blocked kick and running it in for a touchdown in the final seconds of the first half. The half ended with the score 35-6. Kenwood was unable to turn the game around in the second half. Jacob Moeckler made a sack, followed by a second blocked kick that was picked up by  Maize. Jones' touchdown brought the score to 42-6. A desperate Kenwood saw Jones intercept a pass. Jones ran 46 yards on this play to score his second touchdown. With the score 49-6 in the third quarter a running clock started and there was no more scoring. Deerfield faces DeKalb (#5, 8-2) Saturday in Deerfield in the second round.
