Simeon wins Seventh CPS Title
It wasn't easy, but Simeon (24-3) won its seventh CPS basketball championship on Sunday night with a 54-49 win over Kenwood. The Wolverines prevailed despite blowing an eight point lead against Kenwood who had advanced to the Public League title game for the first time in school history.
Simeon’s Zach Norvell, who will attend Gonzaga, led the Wolverines with 18 points.
Evan Gilyard sealed Simeon's seventh title by scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter including seven free throws.
This was quite a weekend for Simeon who beat three of the state's best teams Morgan Park(22-3), Evanston(21-4), and Kenwood(19-4).
Zion Morgan led the Kenwood Broncos who played a great game with 15 points. Kenwood put some pressure on Simeon by rallying and taking the lead before Gilyard made those seven free throws.
Now, Simeon will try to win the state basketball championship for the eighth time.
